Celebrating 250 years of Jane Austen

For the last couple of years, I’ve had this idea brewing in my head of a whimsical, romantic wedding inspired by my favourite movie (and book), Pride & Prejudice. This year happens to be the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, so it only seemed fitting to reimagine her timeless sense of romance in a modern Ontario setting.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of The June Motel – Beaver Valley, this styled session was a love letter to English-cottage charm, Victorian elegance, and the kind of cinematic storytelling that would make even Mr. Darcy swoon.

A dream team of Georgian Bay creatives came together to bring this vision to life, infusing Pride and Prejudice-worthy inspiration into every detail, while adding a fresh, contemporary twist. The result? A romantic celebration that blends Victorian whimsy with elevated minimalism, perfect for couples who want their love story to feel like a scene from a period film, right here in Ontario.

Victorian Romance Meets Modern Whimsy at The June Motel in Beaver Valley

The creative direction came to life thanks to the guidance of Melissa Twist Events and focused on balancing nostalgia with modern whimsy. Think English-garden florals, a 16-foot tablescape dressed with soft textures and vintage touches, and a picnic setup that would feel right at home in a Jane Austen adaptation.

The June Motel was the perfect setting for this wedding shoot, since it embodies cottagecore vibes to a T, from the June Motel’s soft palette, its whimsical details and gorgeous location on a river with a drooping tree canopy.

The ceremony took place dockside, with the gentle flow of the Beaver River as a backdrop. It was intimate, personal, and perfectly unconventional.

Florals and Decor: Wild, Garden-Inspired Beauty

Fire & Flora Co brought the floral vision to life with blooms arranged in a naturally untamed garden style. From the floral-adorned ceremony dock to the picnic vignette and the abundant tablescape, every petal helped tell the story of romance and intention.

Textures reigned supreme with the soft gold flatware, tinted glassware, and vintage-inspired furnishings gave each scene depth and richness while keeping everything timeless.

Pulling it all together into a gorgeous custom invitation suite was Peak Paper Co, who beautifully captured the vintage feel of the June Motel and this session.
