While most couples choose to take their engagement photos in the fall or summer, sometimes, that's not always feasible. Winters in Ontario can be very long if you don't love getting outside in the snow. Winter engagement photos can have this magical quality about them that you don't always get in the other seasons.

Skating is just so quintessentially Canadian. Adding a skating activity to your engagement session is a great way to enjoy your winter engagement photos. Plus, adding an activity that you both love can help you relax in front of the camera.

Winter Skating Engagement Session

I love that Rebecca and Elias wanted to do something out of the box with their engagement session. In the couples questionnaire that I send to all my new couples, they mentioned that they both love to skate and wanted to incorporate skating and the outdoors into their session. We tossed around a couple of ideas with a skating trail, which we have a few of in Ontario, but settled on a lake and a pretty waterfall in Grey County.

Unfortunately, we had received a dumping of snow and the lake, which normally had a rink tended to by the neighbourhood wasn't there. So we took our skates to the nearby neighbourhood rink.

Despite it being -20 C, Rebecca and Elias were troopers playing in the snow and fighting the cold. We played in the snow near the waterfall, then donned skates on the rink followed by a walk to the lake to get some drone shots. Thankfully hot cocoa was waiting for them after the session.
