Adapting to unpredictable weather has been one of the biggest lessons this year. With 2024 being the wettest season on record for Toronto and the surrounding areas, it's become increasingly clear that weather can play a huge role on your wedding or engagement photography sessions. However, rather than letting less-than-ideal conditions dampen the mood, there's an opportunity to embrace the beauty and uniqueness of the moment.
Wedding days are usually set in stone, making rescheduling next to impossible. My advice? Lean into the weather—rain or shine. If it happens to be pouring, think of those iconic scenes from movies like The Notebook. Channel your inner Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, and let the romance of the rain shine through in your photos. There's something truly magical about capturing those raw, emotional moments in unexpected weather.
When it comes to engagement sessions, there's often more flexibility to reschedule. However, I'm always up for the challenge if you want to stick to the original plan, no matter the conditions. Rainy, foggy, smokey, or snowy—I've got the experience and the gear to shoot in nearly all weather types. The unpredictability can add a unique charm to your photos that sunny skies can't always deliver. After all, relationships aren't sunny every day, so why not let your engagement photos reflect the beautiful chaos that life sometimes throws your way?
Engagement session in Canmore, Alberta
A great example of this is my session with Melodie and Brandon during a workshop I attended in the Rocky Mountains. It was wildfire season, and the air was thick with smoke, which created a dense fog. We had hoped to showcase the stunning mountain vistas at Quarry Lake Park in Canmore, but the fog completely obscured the scenery. Despite this, we decided to embrace what nature gave us. The result? Some of the most unique and atmospheric shots I’ve captured. Melodie and Brandon were incredible, making the session unforgettable despite the weather.
Embracing the unexpected can lead to truly magical and memorable photos!
Canmore is such a great place for an engagement session, there are so many places to explore that are just outside the famous Banff National Park, and are a little less busy for the occasion.
