A fall wedding at Limberlost Forest in Muskoka feels like stepping into a storybook, surrounded by still lakes, whispering trees, and a quiet sense that time has slowed just for you. When Laura and Liam told me they wanted an intimate celebration rooted in nature, I knew this place would be the perfect fit. Their day was serene, heartfelt, and filled with gentle adventure. From getting ready in cozy cabins tucked among the trees to Laura paddling across the lake with her dad as her “aisle,” every moment reflected their love for the outdoors and for each other.
An Intimate Wedding Day in Limberlost Forest
When Laura and Liam first reached out to me, they spoke with such excitement about their love for the outdoors and how they envisioned a ceremony surrounded by nature. They wanted an adventurous photographer who could help bring their dream to life, and I was all in.
Their day was perfectly balanced between heartfelt emotion and calm simplicity. They got ready in two separate cabins tucked among the trees with their maid of honour and best man by their sides. The morning air carried laughter, the scent of pine, and that unmistakable cottage calm that makes you breathe a little deeper.
One of my favourite moments was watching Laura and her dad paddle across the lake to the ceremony site. That was their “aisle,” a peaceful glide over the still lake that reflected all the fall colours surrounding us. Laura managed to get in and out of the canoe in her dress, veil, and high heels with complete grace (so impressive!). It was such a unique entrance and a perfect reflection of her adventurous spirit.
Liam waited at the shore, eyes fixed on her with the kind of look that makes you believe in forever. He had actually made Laura’s engagement ring himself, a sentimental gesture that still gives me chills every time I think about it. The ceremony was simple and heartfelt, with vows that had everyone, including me, tearing up behind the camera.
After the ceremony, Laura and Liam popped champagne and toasted with their guests as the sun started to peek out from behind the clouds. They shared a quiet moment in the canoe, just the two of them, soaking in the joy of the day while their family cheered from the dock. Even with a small guest count, the love that surrounded them felt enormous, warm and genuine in every way.
Once all the guests left to enjoy a cocktail hour at Humber Valley Resort where they would be having their dinner, Laura, Liam and I wandered into the forest for portraits while the light filtered through the colourful trees and wrapped them in the softest glow. It was one of those moments that felt cinematic, like watching the final scene of a love story you never want to end.
Adding Film To Your Wedding Package?
Laura and Liam were drawn to the look and feel of film, so they chose to add it to their wedding photography package. Film photography has a beautiful sense of nostalgia. Maybe it’s the grainy texture that makes each frame feel like a memory, or maybe it’s the intentionality behind every click of the shutter.
When you choose to add film to your wedding package, you’re not just getting more photos. You’re adding another layer of emotion to your story. Each frame is one of a kind, with no retakes or retouching, only moments as they unfold, raw and honest. It’s a way of preserving your day that feels timeless, like flipping through a box of cherished memories decades later.
For Laura and Liam, those film images brought a softness and romance that perfectly matched the tone of their wedding at Limberlost Forest. Every frame felt like a glimpse into a memory, quiet, emotional, and full of love.
